University president receives Elaine Mendoza Visionary Award
Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier was honored by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) this week with the Elaine Mendoza Visionary Award for her dedication to improving the San Antonio community and inspiring others. Dr. Ferrier accepted the award at the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber 5th Annual Women's Luncheon on Tuesday, October 14 at the Omni Colonnade Hotel. The Elaine Mendoza Visionary Award is one of only eight awards given to exemplary women who make significant contributions to the community and serve as a role model for women and girls. Texas A&M University System Regent Elaine Mendoza, for whom the award is named, was also in attendance.

Helping to build international ties
Texas A&M-San Antonio hosted the Nuevo Leon Automotive Sector on Friday, October 17 in the Central Academic Building Vista Room. The Mexican delegation was composed of over 30 manufacturing companies, aiming to strengthen relationships with SEDEC Nuevo Leon and ProMexico, and traveled to San Antonio for a three-day conference and relationship-building event. The delegation convened for lunch at A&M-SA following a tour of the nearby Toyota Motor manufacturing plant, where they heard from Tom Long, Vice President of Business Recruitment for the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, and Natalia Martinez, Public Affairs Manager for Brooks Development Authority.
Getting to know the candidates
A&M-San Antonio's Student Government Association sponsored a Meet & Greet event on Tuesday, October 14 for faculty, staff, students, and the general public to hear from candidates running for local, regional and state office. Attendants included the Greg Abbott for Governor Campaign, Marisa B. Perez, Liza Rodriguez, Scott Roberts, Carlton Soules, Nicholas Lahood, and the Republican Women of Texas group. The candidates shared their personal platforms and how their intended contributions to offices such as the Texas State Board of Education, Bexar County Judges, and the District Attorney.
